Being japanese movie poster
Documentary
Brief
Interviewees with very different backgrounds are meant to be represented on the poster without highlighting any of them individually.
design
A simple symbol (Hinomaru / red circle) is used to unify the different kinds of Japanese self identities appearing in the documentary. Naturalistic paper texture, color theme and the hand drawn circle reflect the film's human centered approach and also references to classical Japanese graphic traditions. The silhouettes (which are based on illustrations used in the documentary) are meant to leave open the interpretations about Japanese appearances and human characteristics.
